Obama as well as Immigration Change

Immigration, immigration laws and regulations, illegal immigration as well as immigration change won’t remain in the history for considerably longer. It’s not really about republicans or even democrats, it’s about looking to get our hands around some form of comprehensive immigration change. It’s needed to take the back chair to additional pressing issues within our country lately. President Obama offers promised to deal with this immediate issue.

Current immigration law is extremely harsh, specifically for those with criminal history records. While I am a liberal about the issue associated with immigrants as well as immigration; I’m entirely support associated with deporting harmful criminals. Immigration laws happen to be on the actual books in the usa going to 1798 which ushered within the Alien Act referred to as the Unfamiliar and Sedition Laws and regulations, which energized the Leader to discharge any unfamiliar, or non-citizen, he or she deemed harmful.

A common immigration regulation passed within 1882 required the exemption of “idiots, lunatics, convicts, and persons prone to become open public charges. inch The 1882 regulation also prohibited Chinese immigrants. A 1917 immigration regulation established the literacy requirement of admission towards the country.

Then we now have the delicate issue associated with newly liberated slaves as well as their immigration standing. The overwhelming most of American slaves had been literally bred in the usa, however weren’t considered people. They had been deemed home or chattel not really a “person” because defined legally.

After emancipation, our elected representatives passed the actual 13th, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments in order to empower recently freed slaves. The fourteenth amendment given the previous slaves citizenship in addition to their kids. The fourteenth amendment arrived up once again recently in obviously, of just about all places their state of Az. Senator Steve Kyl in addition to Senator She Graham had been advocating repealing the actual amendment therefore the government might deport the kids of immigrants born in the usa. Give me a rest, as if this could really fly in the current society?

Whenever you ask that has the finest liability republicans or even democrats, it might be republicans. They’ve effectively impeded any possibility of picking upward significant votes within the Latino electorate. The harm they (Republicans) did from a pr standpoint is going to be felt for many years to arrive.

They possess so alienated (absolutely no pun meant) the actual Latino community which i see this as unrecoverable. This recuperating republican sees an extremely dim future for that GOP. The actual once large tent, has developed into sideshow. To include insult in order to injury, Republicans happen to be calling with regard to more intense raids upon employers associated with Latino’s along with “questionable” immigration status at work.

Now which Republicans possess control of the home, they’re jumping directly into the fight for much more aggressive immigration enforcement and therefore are even contacting the president to create immigration raids in the workplace once again. If Leader Obama had been to cavern into this particular, it will be a big error.

One must consider a lot of things to be able to obtain and gaze after the correct immigration standing, including: digesting requirements as well as timelines with regard to work enables and visas, different laws in one country to another, and the actual ever changing facets of immigration regulation. Permanent immigration may be the ultimate goal of numerous people getting into or likely to enter america. But before this really is possible, chances are one will require a visa.

Immigration lawyers can offer the freedom lots of people seek to reside and function permanently within the U. Utes. They may also provide the actual specialized know-how as well as answers to a lot of questions within their designated area of immigration regulation.

There tend to be two types of visas someone trying to immigrate towards the U. Utes. can obtain. One is really a permanent visa as the other may be the temporary visa. A individual who acquires the permanent visa will so with no limit on the amount of years they are able to stay. An individual who gets a short-term visa is susceptible to a annual limitation. Most non-immigrant visas need you to show you don’t intend in order to migrate completely. For the non-immigrant visa, you need to prove you have a long term residence in your house country you don’t intend in order to abandon. Some visas will also be of “dual intent” and that means you may also make an effort to obtain long term U. Utes. residence via a green greeting card.

The United states Dream: Immigrants as well as Entrepreneurs

America has always been the destination for individuals in search of a much better life. The “American Dream” pulls immigrants searching for freedoms such as the opportunity with regard to prosperity as well as success. These goals include the opportunity to start their very own businesses. The actual recent Ough. S. Census discovered that immigrants personal 18% of smaller businesses in the actual U. Utes., a 6 percent improve from 1990. To place this in to perspective, immigrants only take into account 13% from the total Ough. S. populace (Arora). Although immigrants have experienced to confront poor people economy and the possible lack of opportunities in order to secure conventional financing, they’ve proven themselves to become formidable business owners using dedication and effort to produce successful companies.

The entrepreneurial generate demonstrated through immigrants was created through the actual sacrifices made visiting america. Leaving their own country as well as family behind hoping of getting a better life offers the drive to achieve success. Jim Blaine, CEO from the State Workers Credit Marriage, said “Latinos tend to be following within the footsteps associated with European immigrants a hundred years ago. All of them come within, and they need to be entrepreneurs” (Deconto). The several immigrants which i have interviewed in the last decade possess shared they have sacrificed in the future to america in order to achieve the possibility of the better existence for on their own and their own children. They do not mind operating multiple jobs to aid themselves and their own families both right here and home while additionally they save as much as start-up their very own business. Although the present economy crisis has already established a major effect on many within america, and most are fearful from the uncertain long term, it may be the immigrants who keep hope which even via these difficult times there’s room with regard to growth along with a chance in a better existence that exactly what they remaining. There tend to be many causes of people in order to immigrate to some foreign property but the majority of come dreaming about the likelihood to embrace a brand new life where they’re in charge of their future through particular freedoms which are afforded to any or all within america. These freedoms consist of freedom in order to: choose your personal religion, operating inside a capitalist culture, seek away an training, and create a better life for the family.

Even prior to the financial turmoil started as well as funding became tougher, immigrants faced the truth that looking for traditional financing will be difficult. Traditional loan companies request a number of documentation and evidence of financial stability to aid loans. This is often challenging for a lot of immigrants. Any immigrant that recently immigrated wouldn’t have a credit rating, nor use of credit or perhaps a solid work history, even though they earned a good living within their home nation. The lifestyle of keeping tight in order to family provides and supporting one another collectively is why is financing feasible for many brand new start-up endeavors of immigrants. Stieber creates, that even though “there tend to be many federal government resources open to would-be business owners, most still depend on friends and family for the majority of financing along with other forms associated with support” (Stieber).

Oddly enough enough, most of the immigrant entrepreneurs don’t have college levels (Arora). Even if immigrants possess a degree from the higher academic institutions, their qualifications in many cases are not acknowledged within america. Due towards the limited job opportunities, immigrants choose to start their very own businesses as well as hire additional immigrants to utilize them as well as help operate their companies. However, approximately 4. 7 zillion U. Utes. workers have employment with immigrant possessed firms collecting some $776 million in income, according to the newest figures within the Fiscal Plan Institute statement (Koba). This declaration that immigrants who don’t have any formal advanced schooling can start-up businesses inside a foreign nation is a good example of how mindset and effort go quite a distance in the actual entrepreneurial world.

Amnesty with regard to Illegal Immigrants: Curing the actual Symptom and never the Chilly

Granting amnesty in order to illegal immigrants currently within the U. Utes. is not really a long-term means to fix solving the actual immigration issue. Amnesty only handles illegal immigrants currently within the U. Utes. and doesn’t deal along with future immigrants. It will nothing to deal with the conflict between your narrow types of admittance and also the lax enforcement requirements. When amnesty had been granted within the 1980s, it handled illegal immigrants within the U. Utes. at time, but didn’t reform the machine, thereby resulting in the scenario we encounter today.

Amnesty provides relief in order to illegal immigrants currently within the U. Utes. and doesn’t deal along with future immigrants. An unlawful immigrant is really a person that either joined the Ough. S. illegally, or even entered the actual U. Utes. legally and it has stayed beyond time they had been legally allowed to do this. To demonstrate, someone that crossed the actual border without dealing with a edge checkpoint offers entered the actual U. Utes. illegally, whereas somebody who found the Ough. S. on the tourist visa as well as stayed past the expiration from the tourist visa offers overstayed and it is “out associated with status. inch

Simply simply because someone is actually deportable doesn’t mean that they’ll be deported. The reason being there is really a discrepancy between your government’s assets and the amount of immigrants dealing with the system every year. This has resulted in approximately 11 zillion illegal immigrants within the U. Utes.

As immigration, and how you can address the actual 11 zillion immigrants within the U. Utes., has become an ever more popular subject, one from the proposed options is allowing amnesty with a, or just about all, of the actual 11 zillion immigrants within the U. Utes. There isn’t any standard description for amnesty, however the general idea of amnesty is actually forgiving a good illegal immigrant with regard to entering the actual U. Utes. illegally, or even overstaying their own legal standing, and allowing them the best in which to stay the Ough. S. completely (or even, to make use of the legal phrase, become the Legal Long term Resident (LPR)). Below current Ough. S. regulation, an LPR may become a Ough. S. citizen after as an LPR with regard to five many years.

The issue with amnesty is that it’s inherently backward searching. It only handles illegal immigrants currently within the U. Utes. and will nothing to deal with the concern of why there’s such a lot of illegal immigrants to begin with. While amnesty can participate immigration change, it can’t be the just solution. The key reason why this holds true requires a reason of the present immigration program.

The present immigration system is extremely restrictive of who are able to stay within the U. Utes. permanently. Just U. Utes. citizens as well as LPRs can remain in the Ough. S. completely. Anyone who not fall under one of these simple two groups will eventually need to leave the actual U. Utes. (or even overstay and be an unlawful immigrant). Consequently, the crux from the whole concern is: who’s eligible being an LPR?

The short response to this question is extremely few individuals, relatively talking. There tend to be three pathways to getting an LPR: family-based, employment-based, as well as humanitarian-based. The family-based route requires using a qualifying relative who’s a Ough. S. resident or a good LPR currently. The employment-based route requires persuading the Ough. S. government how the individual is really highly skilled within their field how the U. Utes. will take advantage of making that each an LPR. The humanitarian-based path is perfect for asylees as well as refugees.

Along with qualifying under one of these simple categories, addititionally there is the concern of visa accessibility. The quantity of green cards provided each 12 months is assigned. While the select couple of categories tend to be exempt in the cap (at the. g., partners of Ough. S. people), the overwhelming most of people who be eligible for a a eco-friendly card are susceptible to the limit.

The limit on eco-friendly cards is actually both common and particular. This means that there’s a limit about the total quantity of green cards provided each 12 months for groups that come under the limit. In add-on, there tend to be individual limits for every of individuals categories. For instance, there is definitely an annual restrict on the amount of green cards provided to international nationals in the Philippines who be eligible for a a eco-friendly card based on having the U. Utes. citizen brother.

The record reality of the system is how the demand with regard to green credit cards vastly outnumbers the way to obtain green credit cards. This has resulted in an huge backlog in certain categories. For instance, as associated with December 2012, foreign nationals in the Philippines who be eligible for a a eco-friendly card based on having the U. Utes. citizen brother could be prepared to wait around 23 years to get their eco-friendly card.

Through a mix of narrow groups for certification and large backlogs, the actual U. Utes. immigration program has close out a lot of people who wish to immigrate towards the U. Utes. Some of those people possess chosen in the future to the actual U. Utes. illegally, or even overstay their own status as well as stay illegally.

Another half of the story may be the enforcement side from the U. Utes. immigration program. The simple the truth is that the actual U. Utes. government doesn’t have enough assets to impose its rigid immigration laws and regulations. This implies that there are not enough edge patrols to maintain out people who are crossing edges illegally, there are not enough police force personnel to locate and deport unlawful immigrants, and there is not enough room in jails in order to detain those people who are caught, thereby resulting in their release back to the Ough. S. Whenever you combine the actual strict immigration laws using the underfunded enforcement program, you obtain 11 zillion illegal immigrants.

Why won’t amnesty function? Let’s suppose a regulation is handed giving amnesty to each and every illegal immigrant within the U. Utes., effective This summer 4, 2013. By July four, 2013, forget about illegal immigration issue! But what goes on on This summer 5, 2013? Because the same limited immigration program would remain, and exactly the same underfunded enforcement program would remain, a totally new wave associated with illegal immigrants might begin getting into the Ough. S. Over time, we will be right back again where all of us started.

Actually, that is precisely how we reached where we’re today. Within 1986, 3 million unlawful immigrants had been granted amnesty. The actual immigration program and enforcement program were modified, but not really overhauled. Because 1986, 11 zillion illegal immigrants came to the actual U. Utes. Amnesty is really a band-aid, not really a solution.

So long as there is a mix of severe limitations on entries along with a lax enforcement program, there will be illegal immigrants – the answer is possibly relaxing the actual severe limitations, or tightening up enforcement using the current limitations. Amnesty can participate the answer, but it can’t be the single solution.

Emigration and Immigration Across The World

Every country in the world has its own immigration policies and laws. Immigration laws refer to the national government policies which control the phenomenon of immigration to their country. These laws vary from country to country and depend upon prevailing political conditions in the country which sway for and against the favor of new immigrants.

Immigration laws of a country are regulated by The United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which states that all the countries allow entry to its own citizens. The international immigration laws come into action when someone applies for a passport, travels from his native country to another country or seeks to enter another country for employment or education. There are different push and pull factors for immigration. Push factors refer primarily to the motive of emigration from the native country. Economic migration due to differential wage rates is the most prominent factor. Escape from poverty in case of labor emigration is a traditional push factor. Natural disasters trigger poverty related emigration.

Employment opportunities and better education standards are important pull factors for immigration. Emigration and immigration are sometimes mandatory in certain contracts of employment. Religious missionaries, employees of international corporations, international non governmental organizations and diplomatic officers are required to work overseas. They are often referred to as “Expatriates”.

Retirement migration from rich countries to low cost countries with better climatic conditions and relaxed lifestyle is a new form of international migration. Certain countries maintain strict laws which regulate the right of entry and internal rights after immigration. These rights include duration of stay and the right to participate in the government. Most countries have laws governing the process of naturalization by which immigrants may become citizens of the country. To immigrate to a country one needs to apply for a visa, the type and category depends upon the duration of stay and purpose and also upon the governing immigration laws of the host country. Basically there are two visa categories, the immigrant or non immigrant visas. One can apply for the immigration category if he is aiming to settle permanently. The non immigrant categories include tourist and student visas. Before applying for a visa, one needs to understand the host country’s immigrations laws, difference between cultures, educational and financial eligibilities and other document related formalities. To provide visa related assistance, Immigration services are provided by various Immigration Law firms. These Immigration Law firms are run by successful immigration lawyers and attorneys. These lawyers are experienced in addressing immigration related issues from all over the world. These immigration lawyers have worked in collaboration with experienced immigration consultants from across the globe. Immigration consulting firms provide technical assistance through client guiding sessions. The client interacts with immigration lawyers regarding Student and Tourist visas, Passport assistance, career options abroad, how to apply to various courses and institutes and also regarding the post landing services at the host countries. These law firms also assist their clients in preparing Business visa and Tourist visa applications for all major destinations across the world, including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other European countries.

Immigration consulting firms cater to countless individuals & groups to immigrate successfully to desired destinations. In an effort to boost economies, many developed and wealthy countries like Canada, offer the Investor Immigration Program for experienced and affluent businessmen to invest and become permanent residents. Many of the Immigration consulting Law firms aim to help the prospective Investors through Investor Immigration services which thoroughly explain the financial eligibilities to the prospective immigrants.

Visa Service centers in India also offer variety of options to their customers depending upon their requirements. A Visa Service counselor understands the need of the customer and then suggests them suitable visa options according to the complexity of the case. Visa Services centers also offer fast track visa services and ease the complication of paper formalities through online applications.

Since Immigration services has a lot to do with government foreign laws and norms, the visa service centre has to keep themselves updated with the new rules and accordingly mould their services. With the stringent migration norms these days, especially after the gloomy recession, countries like UK and US have become very strict with their immigration laws. Visa service providers need to be very smart in offering immigration services to their clients. They need to follow a client centered approach while addressing their specific needs.

Globalisation Between Promotion And Demotion – A Look Into The Phenomenon Of Immigration

For long ignored or considered marginal, international immigration recently erupted on the world agenda as, traditional destination countries suddenly realised the intensity of the phenomenon. Understood as the intensification of exchanges worldwide, globalisation has often been seen through transfers of capital, goods or information. The permanent or temporary residence of a person in a country different from his original country or a country he claims citizenships as we define immigration, implies the sharing of the risks, misery and other threats felt by some to the whole world. International immigration as such gives concreteness to the concept of global village, a village where it becomes more and more difficult to hide the misery of slums to neighbours who lives in rich areas.

The roots of immigration are generally poverty and conflicts or war . Exposed to squalor, of all ages, peoples have tried to settle in greener pastures of safer haven. From the first known cases of Hebrews leaving for Egypt during the reign of Pharaohs, to the attempts of Africans leaving for Europe or Southern Americans leaving for the Northern part of the continent, immigration has always been part of mankind’s history, structuring to a certain extent the face of the world as it appears today.

The discovery of Americas in 1492 launched the first era of massive international migration. In large flows, Europeans both investors and people without capital migrated to Americas. For Europeans, this happened in a context of growing economic recession and scarcity. America and later Oceania presented opportunities to improve on their conditions. The period of the Napoleonic Wars was characterised by freer movement of goods, capital and labour and as such was referred to the “first global century”. Prior to this period, Africans were massively forced to migrate in America as they were reduced to slavery .

With the abolition of Slavery in the 1850s and thanks to innovations in both transatlantic shipping and transcontinental railways, Europeans, confronted to squalor and famine in their continent especially in Italy and Ireland migrated to cause peaks never reached before then by immigration .

Others inflows were observed elsewhere in the World. During the colonial domination, though the Coolie system a large flow of Chinese and Indians settled in estates of the Indian Ocean (Madagascar, Maurice, Seychelles, South Africa)

The trend dropped after World War I as restrictive legislation on immigration emerged in traditionally receiving countries, while public hostility and economic recession was developing in those countries.

After a period of relative stability, international immigration increased especially since the last two decades of the 20th century. This era is marked by new origins of migrants and the emergence of new destination countries as well as sophistication of the phenomenon. In 2000, the total number of people living out of their countries was 175 millions .

The collapse of former Soviet Union increased the number of migrants. Citizens of those states in large numbers migrate since then to America and West Europe., Africans in large numbers migrate daily to Europe, North America or the Persian Gulf; other flows include Southern Americans leaving for North America or South Asians moving worldwide. The migration senses observed during the Napoleonic Wars still persist but dropped considerably in number.

For long tolerated, ignored or even encouraged by receiving countries, international migration became in recent years mostly perceived as a plague. Worldwide, we observed the multiplication of measures to reverse the trend: the erection of gates, the closing of centres for asylum seekers, the reformulation of laws. Meantime, migrants are the object of increasing xenophobia in receiving countries, with states doing little to protect or to integrate them. Growing confusion between economic migrants and asylum seekers is observed as the second are increasingly treated the same as the first.

Whatever the causes of immigration: search of asylum or the improvement of the living conditions of migrants, considering the trend of the phenomenon, the growing inequalities between richer and poorer countries, tendency would hardly reverse in the coming years. The human scandals of Pas-de6Calais, Ceuta and Melilla, Rio Grande call for humane and moral considerations of all states stakeholders of the phenomenon. Side by side, transit, destination and sending countries, losers or gainers in the process should address the roots causes, trapped and castigated as they are today, migrants should effectively as victims of the whole process, whose sole expectation is to have a better life.

I. IMMIGRATION FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF GAINS AND LOSSES

Immigration, provide opportunities to workers both skilled and unskilled to find jobs not affordable in home countries. Be they migrants from developing countries settling in developed countries or reverse, migration of workers is always motivated by the quest of jobs in quantity as well as quality. Unskilled workers through immigration were able over the years to satisfy receiving countries demands of low-value jobs left -as not interesting by their nationals. An example in point is that of Arabs from Maghreb largely employed in the building industry of France. By easing employment needs of receiving countries, the flow of migrant workers leads to deflation of labour cost in receiving countries while the side effect affects the sending country.

Inflow of remittances and foreign exchanges appear to be for sending countries and communities the main satisfaction derived from immigration of their nationals. Though remittances are difficult to quantify since they are channelled through various means to their ultimate destination, remittances are increasingly growing in their impact on the provision of additional financial means to the sending countries. From a study by United Nations, remittances represent the first source of wealth in: Egypt, Cap-Vert, Jordan, Lesotho, Samoa and Yemen where they surpass any exportation product . In 2002, from estimation by IMF, 130 billion dollars were sent as remittances by migrants to their home countries, 79 billion of them were for developing countries. Though not equal to foreign direct investment, remittances surpassed official development assistance. Remittances from migrants are largely geared towards family consumption as such, its direct effect on the general wealth of countries is somehow mitigated or difficult to assess. Nevertheless these inflows have the advantage of reducing social pressure from poorer group on their governments, it should be recalled that in some regions of the world: Western Africa and Philippines migration is seen there as the main chance for some families to achieve upward social mobility . Traditions of migration have developed in countries like Mali whereby migrated relatives constitute in many respects strong supports to large groups. The organisation of migrants into community development committees to finance their communities’ development is among the main sources of construction of facilities in regions like Kayes in Mali and remote areas of the Philippines.

Illegal Immigrant Workers

Migrant labor is an issue receiving an increasing amount of attention. It has become a matter of growing importance as a number of factors, including rapid population expansion and higher rates of urbanization, lead many people to seek better economic opportunities in other countries.

The International Labour Organization estimates there are roughly 96 million migrant workers and their dependents in the world today. Some experts predict that the number will double in the next twenty years.

In the United States there are 6.3-million illegal workers in the United States, according to estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center. About half of those are from Mexico. These illegal Mexican immigrants are at the center of an ongoing debate as to how the United States should handle illegal immigration.

A common belief is that Mexicans immigrate to the United States in order to find work. But according to a study conducted by the center, a lack of jobs in Mexico is not a major reason that immigrants come to the United States illegally. Rather, immigrants are driven out of their home country because of Mexico’s low wages, poor job quality and lack of long-term prospects and opportunity.

Study results were based on interviews with 4,836 men and women applying for Mexican identification cards at consulates in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Fresno, Atlanta and Raleigh, N.C.

The study found that only 5% of Mexican immigrants who have been in the United States for less than two years were unemployed in Mexico. In fact, the vast majority of undocumented migrants interviewed were gainfully employed before they left for the United States.

The study also found that immigrants have little trouble finding work in the United States, despite the lack of legal rights to work. After six months in the United States, only 5% of the immigrants reported being unemployed. This statistic reveals how important these immigrant workers are to the United States economy, because they perform jobs that few others are willing to do.

And they do so for low wages. Immigrants generally make poverty-level wages in the United States, or about $300 per week. While shockingly low, these wages are twice what workers in Mexico make.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center study, Mexican immigrants provide many types of labor needed around the country, including construction in Atlanta, Dallas and Raleigh; hospitality in New York; manufacturing in Chicago; and agriculture in California. These four industries employed about two-thirds of survey respondents.

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington D.C., says it’s not news that a demand for low-wage labor exists in the United States. But instead of establishing guest-worker programs or amnesty for illegal immigrants, Krikorian advocated removing immigrant workers from the economy gradually. In his view, this would, among other things, improve wages for American workers.

Despite a seemingly steady stream of immigrant workers, farms in California and other businesses are having a hard time finding enough people willing to work for low wages. Many immigrants are choosing to work in the riskier but higher paying construction industry. And the government and civilian border patrol groups like the Minutemen are stepping up efforts to secure the United States-Mexico border, making it harder for immigrants to enter.

Government officials, including the President, want to establish new legislation that will more strongly enforce the immigration laws.

In January of 2004 President Bush outlined a plan to revamp the nation’s immigration laws and allow some eight million illegal immigrants to obtain legal status as temporary workers, saying the United States needs an immigration system “that serves the American economy and reflects the American dream.”

Illegal immigrants already in the United States could apply for the temporary worker program only if they already had a job. The special status would last for three years and could be renewed once, for a total stay of six years. If temporary workers failed to stay employed or broke the law, they would be sent home.

Bush said the new legal status would allow illegal immigrants to travel back to their home countries without fear of not being allowed to return to the United States.

The reason for the reform, Bush said, is to confront “a basic fact of life and economics — some of the jobs being generated in America’s growing economy are jobs American citizens are not filling.”

Currently, about 140,000 “green cards” are issued each year to people wanting to migrate to the United States. Bush has called on Congress to raise it, but did give a specific number.

Bush described the immigration proposals as a national security measure that will help the United States exert more control over borders. “Our homeland will be more secure when we can better account for those who enter our country,” he said. “Instead of the current situation, in which millions of people are unknown… law enforcement will face few problems with undocumented workers and will be better able to focus on the true threats to our nation from criminals and terrorists.”

Immigration Reform Takes Another Round in Congress

The Gang of 8 Senators said in a joint statement:

“Our immigration system is broken and it is time for a national conversation about how to fix it,”

“We believe common sense immigration reform is vital in order to secure America’s borders, advance our economic growth, and provide fuller access to the American dream.”

The Immigration Reform Agenda

The advent of Senate Joint Resolution 8 sent an uproar to the state of California and 49 other states in the U.S. The resolution sponsored by Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana is directed at overhauling and providing holistic principles to address immigration reform issues for the benefit of around 11 million immigrants now in the US.

The move to introduce reforms in the immigration laws was first made by immigrant groups in 2007 during the reign of President Bush, but the movement was unsuccessful. Again, the issue on reform immigration was revived in 2010 when President Barack Obama announced his deferred-deportation program allowing young immigrants to apply for work visas. In his State of Union address in February, The President called on Congress to address the issue on immigration and pass extensive immigration measures.

Immigration a boost to American economy

According to Senator Huff, America had benefited from immigration, “The United States has been enriched by the strength and culture of immigrants who’ve come here from all over the world, and there’s no reason to believe that’s changed,” Indeed, the resolution is geared towards developing a more systematic and achievable immigration reform mechanisms granting US citizenship to about 11 million illegal immigrants in the US.

Senator Huff further said that America is very much aware of the need for reform immigration, thus, “It’s perfectly appropriate for the California State Legislature to add its voice to those reforms. Adopting these principles will increase national security and economic vitality in the nation as well as in California.”

The “Gang of Eight Immigration Reform Bill” gains support

The U.S. Senate’s bipartisan “gang of eight” includes the four Republicans namely: Jeff Flake (Arizona), Lindsey Graham (S. Carolina), John McCain (Arizona) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and four Democrats namely: Michael Bennet (Colorado.), Dick Durbin (Illinois), Robert Menendez (New Jersey) and Chuck Schumer (New York). They worked on the resolution for months referred to as “Gang of Eight Immigration Reform Bill.” The bill urges Congress and the Executive branches of government to develop comprehensive and workable approaches to improve the nation’s immigration sector through workable immigration reform legislations.

The move was supported by the religious community and the economist group. The Most Rev. Gerald Wilkerson, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and President of the California Catholic Conference expresses support to the plan of adopting sweeping reforms immigration. In addition, Vivek Wadhwa, Director of research for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization acknowledged that the growing number of visas issued to high-skilled foreign workers would boost the U.S. economy.

In addition, the San Diego City Council also declared their support to the bill which passed a resolution supporting the comprehensive immigration legislation. Moreover, the President Obama himself urged lawmakers to make immigration reform a priority agenda for 2013.

The immigration reform rally

The call for immigration reform had escalated even more with the participation of thousands of Americans and non-Americans in an immigration reform rally that took place this 1st of May 2013 in downtown Los Angeles. On the same day, there are about 18 other states that rallied for reforms immigration including Washington, D.C. where a large crowd gathered last Wednesday afternoon on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

The fight of illegal immigrants in the U.S. seems to be nearing its end. The support of President Obama and Congress for immigration reforms will make a big difference for the greatest number of illegal immigrants now in the U. S. They now have the chance to acquire U.S. citizenship in simple and accessible terms and conditions.
